The Indian film industry (Hindi), popularly known as Bollywood, has evolved over the years in terms of fashion, storyline, direction, acting, and

much more. While I personally like different subjects being tackled by the directors of today, I do retrospect about the years gone by. (Not that I am really an oldie at heart or something like that!) I do appreciate the way certain leading actresses in Bollywood carried themselves with such grace. The black and white era witnessed some really good acting skills combined with beauty to match by Bollywood heroines.

Before you raise your eyebrows and say – “they also used makeup”, WAIT! I know that! Yet somehow, their natural beauty radiated and shone even through makeup. Besides, neither was the makeup of a higher grade as we find today. Neither were stylists as perfect in their profession as we see today. Nobody was well-read with thousands of fashion articles to browse over the Internet. (No wonder the Bollywood beauties of today are perfect….plastic perfect!)

Anyway, makeup aside, I loved the way these ladies expressed their dialogues so naturally and danced around the trees. These beauties could play the role of a simple village belle, or turn into a sizzling star. (Think about the stylish Sharmila Tagore! Wasn’t she versatile?)

I have listed my favorite Bollywood beauties, and I think, they can never be replaced…ever! I loved the sarees and jewelry of Hema Malini, the retro style saree blouse designs worn by Sharmila Tagore, Sadhana’s haircut, Mumtaz’s orange saree (where will I get one please?!), Nutan’s ability to look naturally pretty… and the list is perpetually endless!

Let me know about your favorite Bollywood star and style inspiration!
